DAY 1: Arrive Paro

Your exciting vacation in this land of happiness begins. After completing your immigration formalities, you will be received by Pinehill Bhutan Travels representative who will be your tour guide throughout your tour.

After checking in your hotel at Paro, you will visit Paro Rinpung Dzong (fortress). Then you will visit one of the clusters of farm houses in Paro Valley and that offers a good glimpse into the lifestyle of a farmer.

DAY 02:  Hike to Takshang Goemba/ Tiger’s nest

An exciting excursion to Taktshang Monastery/ Tiger’s Nest (approx 5 hours round trip hike) is scheduled for today. It is one of the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900 m above the Paro valley floor. Overnight at a hotel in Paro.

 DAY 03: Paro – Punakha (125 km, 3 ½ hours)

Today you will travel from Paro to Punakha. On the way stop at Dochula located at a height of 3,088 m. Dochula is a scenic location with 108 stupa and Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (temple). It should be possible to see the majestic mountain peaks if the sky is clear. Hotels check in. Then visit the Punakha dzong (fortress). Overnight at Punakha.

DAY 04 :  Drive to Bumthang (130 km 7 hours)

Travel to Bumthang via Trongsa. You will pass through open meadows and valley of yak herders and several other villages via Chendebji Chorten (Stupa). On arrival at Trongsa, you will visit Trongsa Dzong (fortress). After that you will continue your journey to Bumthang passing through Yotong La Pass (3400 m). Just before reaching Bumthang you will come across Yathra (wool) Weaving Centre. Further proceed to Bumthang and settle for the night.

DAY 05: Bumthang tour and sightseeing Buddhist monastery

Visit Jambay Lhakhang (temple) built in the 7th century in the morning. Then proceed to Kujey Lhakhang (Kujey means Body imprint).

Post lunch, drive to Mebar Tsho (Burning lake) which is a sacred pilgrimage site. Thereafter, visit Tangbi Goemba which is a walk of half an hour north of Kurje Lhahang. Return and sign off for the day at Bumthang. 

DAY 06: Bumthang tour with local product and ancient fortress  

First, you will visit Jakar Dzong (fortress), initially built as a monastery in 1549. Thereafter, visit the Swiss farm and red panda beer factory. Then proceed to Ugyenchholing Palace now housing the Family Museum. Overnight in Bumthang.

 DAY 07: Bumthang- Phobjikha valley (261 km, 8 hours)

Travel to Phobjikha valley and visit the Gangtay monastery. Phobjikha valley is part of the beautiful Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park. Each winter it is home to a flock of 300 rare and endangered black-necked cranes. The surrounding hills and mountains are home to nomadic shepherds and yak-herders. After lunch at Gangtey, explore Phobjikha valley and also visit the Black Necked Crane Center. Overnight in Phobjikha.

DAY 08: Phobjikha – Punakha – Thimphu (158 km, 6 hours)

Drive to Thimphu via Punakha. Today you will walk through the Metshina Village and take a 20-minute walk through the rice fields to the Divine Madman’s Monastery- Chhimi Lhakhang, famously known for its fertility shrine, where one can receive a special fertility blessing. Then, drive to Thimphu for night halt.

DAY 09: Thimphu local sightseeing

Yet another day in Thimphu begins with visit to the Folk Heritage Museum, Institute for Zorig Chusum (Arts & Crafts School or Painting School), Traditional Medicine School, Craft Bazaar and finally the Simply Bhutan Museum. Overnight in Thimphu.

DAY 10:  Thimphu sightseeing

You have some exciting places to visit on your final day in Bhutan. You start with visit to the Pangri Zampa Lhakhang (temple) which is 20-minute drive from the town on the way to Tango and Cheri monasteries. Thereafter, visit Junghi Handmade Paper Factory, Weekend Market and finally the Tashichhoe Dzong (fortress of the glorious religion). Overnight in Thimphu.

DAY 11: Departure (54 km, 1 hr)
